Our Organisation

The Friends are a community group whose mission is to provide support to the Eurobodalla Regional Botanic Gardens (ERBG).

Friends of Eurobodalla Regional Botanic Gardens strive to be widely recognised as an essential support group for the Gardens, working to develop the Gardens as a showcase for the region's native plants and to promote community awareness, knowledge, appreciation and enjoyment of the Gardens.

As community supporters of the ERBG, the Friends:

  1. Promote and protect the natural environment through:
    • the conservation of a significant collection of the Australian native flora within the Gardens
    • the display of the diversity of plant life, its ecological and geographic distribution and its horticultural values; and
    • the provision of information and education to the community about ERBG and Australian plants.
  2. Raise funds to manage the Friends' organisation and support the work and development of the Gardens as the showcase of the plant diversity of the region.
  3. Offer a range of activities and facilities to members of the Friends, community members who provide voluntary support to the ERBG, and the wider community.

We aim to increase community awareness of the recreational, educational and conservation value of the Gardens.

From the commencement of the Gardens in 1988, the Friends have been actively involved as volunteers in the day-to-day work of the Gardens. Friends, through Council's Volunteer Program, volunteer to meet and greet Gardens' visitors, lead guided walks, assist in the propagation of plants, maintain and develop the Gardens plantings and other amenities.

Since forming, the Friends have raised substantial sums of money to contribute to a wide range of projects including:

  • The Herbarium building, its equipment and library
  • Development of the Arboretum
  • Facilities in the picnic area
  • Children's Playspace
  • Improvements in the propagation nursery
  • A regional native flora seed bank
  • Water-wise display garden (the Xeriscape Garden)
  • Sandstone Garden
  • Purchase of a wide range of equipment

The Friends currently have over 200 members.

Friends of ERBG is a not-for-profit community organisation incorporated under the NSW Associations Incorporation Act 2009.

The organisation is managed by a Committee of 9 people from the community who are elected annually at the organisation's AGM held each October.
